About us...

First Baptist Church, Wellsboro is a conservative, evangelical fellowship within the American Baptist Church/USA denomination. With an average morning worship of 220 between our two services, we strive to be a loving congregation, faithful to Christ and to His Word, as well as to each other. Our membership is a mix of professionals, clerical, self-employed and industrial workers and our educational mix is just as varied.

The main church building houses our sanctuary and educational wings, in addition to Fellowship Hall and offices. Another adjacent building, called The Lighthouse, is used for youth programming as well as other meetings and classes. It contains a large meeting area, a classroom, an office, a complete kitchen and dining area as well as two bathrooms with showers.

Wellsboro is located in north-central Pennsylvania (Tioga County) and is approximately an hour south of Elmira, NY and an hour north of Williamsport, PA. The area is best known for The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, a beautiful deep gorge running through the mountains nearby. Outdoor activities of all kinds – hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing and other winter activities – are all easily accessible. Our small town is known for its quaint gaslights which line the main thoroughfares and for annual celebrations such as The Laurel Festival in June and A Dickens of A Christmas in December. The Green, which lies in the heart of the town, has the famous Winken, Blinken and Nod fountain and hosts outdoor summer band concerts. Mansfield University, a part of the PA State System of Higher Education, is close by and offers many cultural events. Tourism, agriculture, retail and some light industry are the main economic factors in the local economy. See the
